FRACTAL – Promoting green infrastructure in the Alps
By Matteo Vegetti
Over the last century, human population growth and industrial development have led to the depletion of natural resources, the degradation of ecosystems and worrying changes in the global climatic conditions. A fragmented ecosystem cannot provide the basic benefits, or ecosystem services, that people need.
The aim of FRACTAL is to combat ecosystem degradation by promoting Green Infrastructure (GI) in rural, peri-urban, and urban areas of the Alps. Targeting young and adult citizens, farmers, beekeepers, and public administrations, FRACTAL developed GI pacts, an innovative educational toolkit including a board game, and tailor-made outreach events to raise awareness of the role of GI in ecosystem connectivity and resilience.
