Preserving resources, reducing waste and lowering our dependence on finite raw materials: all of this can be achieved by enabling and accelerating the transition to a circular economy. This is exactly what research groups from different disciplines at unibz are working on. Here we present a selection of current projects that help turn local production residues into new resources and actively shape the circular economy at a local level.
Bright minds circulate in a global world. Numerous success stories of unibz alumni and alumnae are proof of this. At the same time, a local university also plays a crucial role in retaining talent in the region and attracting new ones.
In this dossier, we let them all have their say – alumni who moved away or further afield, as well as those who found exciting career opportunities right here in South Tyrol.
Climate change, soil health, water scarcity, loss of biodiversity, and economic pressure are just some of the challenges faced by agriculture. The Faculty of Agricultural, Environmental and Food Sciences at unibz is conducting intensive research into solutions to these problems, to develop sustainable and economically viable approaches to fruit and wine growing, livestock farming, arable farming, and forestry.
This dossier provides insights into current projects, ranging from developing climate-resilient varieties and using digital technologies in fruit growing to citizen science, agroecology, sustainable agritourism, and the use of historical climate data.
