Playground - Designing Visions of Play in a More-than-Human-World

PLAYGROUND explores how playgrounds in cities can promote biodiversity and enable children to experience nature, relax and socialise.

By Matteo Vegetti

As children's health and natural habitats face increasing threats deriving from human activity, there's a growing need to rethink urban spaces to foster the relationship between children and nature.

PLAYGROUND explores whether outdoor play areas can help reintroduce biodiversity into urban environments, while enhancing children’s well-being. In Bolzano, we are working with citizens to design and prototype new forms of play that promote recreation, social connection and contact with nature.

The project is based on the growing interest in urban greening as a response to biodiversity loss, pollution and climate change impacts.
