Industrial Engineering & Automation (IEA) | Research Macro Area

From cobots and digital twins to VR and sustainability, unibz’s Industrial Engineering and Automation Macro Area turns applied research into smarter, more resilient industry.

Von Matteo Vegetti

The Macro Area Industrial Engineering and Automation is strongly industry-oriented and practice-driven, with a clear focus on the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises. It brings together research activities in the fields of Industrial Engineering, Production Automation, and Management Engineering.

The video illustrates how these areas interact to generate innovation across the entire value chain and to enhance the sustainability of industrial processes. This includes the development and application of robot-assisted and collaborative systems (cobots), digital twins, and Virtual and Augmented Reality technologies. It also covers the characterization of materials and components, as well as economic and strategic analyses of how digital technologies affect the sustainability performance of companies. Through this integrated approach, the Macro Area contributes to the systematic advancement of efficient, resilient, and sustainable industrial systems.
