The annual UnILiON (Informal Liaison Offices Network) event, this week, brought together a dynamic mix of university leaders, European Union officials, industry representatives and stakeholders from across the education, research and innovation sectors.

Discussions focused on the transformative role of universities in driving Europe's Artificial Intelligence (AI) revolution. The morning session, moderated by Dani Shanley, Assistant Professor in Human Factors in New Technologies at Maastricht University, set the stage for critical discussions on the challenges, opportunities and emerging trends in AI. Shanley also took the lead in summarising and presenting the results of the session during the afternoon plenary, emphasising the importance of collaborative efforts in this rapidly evolving field.

Prof. Giuseppe Di Fatta was one of the experts who shared insights and best practices on AI applications within academia and beyond, aiming to drive ethical and sustainable innovation.

“The conference reaffirmed the central role of universities in shaping Europe's future in AI, creating a platform for meaningful dialogue and impactful partnerships”, says Francesca Ricardi di Netro, research policy officer at unibz in the Belgian capital.
