AVENTT – Autonomous vehicles and new technologies in transport

AVENTT studies how autonomous shared vehicles will change urban mobility, analyzing impacts on drivers and congestion.

By Matteo Vegetti

Technological innovations, such as digitalisation, electrification and automation, are transforming urban mobility. Autonomous vehicles are expected to encourage the diffusion of shared vehicles, making them more affordable.

AVENTT analyses how the shift to autonomous shared vehicles will affect driver behavior and urban congestion. Using theoretical, empirical and experimental methods, and involving both economists and legal experts, the project highlights that future efficiency in urban mobility will largely depend on how the mobility market is regulated. Policymakers must therefore develop a clear regulatory framework to reduce urban congestion in the era of shared mobility.
