Data, Economics and Forecasting: the Data4Econ Hackathon 2026 returns to unibz
Von Arturo Zilli
Putting your statistical analysis and data science skills to the test on a real-world dataset, building forecasting models and competing in a team challenge: on 30 March, the Data4Econ Hackathon 2026 returns to unibz.
Organized by unibz, the event will bring together students, early-career researchers and professionals to take on a challenge based on data provided by Key to Energy, the initiative’s partner. Participants will work with a real dataset, exploring forecasting models and economic interpretations, with the aim of producing robust analyses and comparable results. The competition will take place in teams: you can register as a group or receive support in matching with other participants.
Beyond the analytical work, the hackathon will offer a direct opportunity to engage with the professional world thanks to the presence of Key to Energy representatives, who will be available to interact with participants and explore potential collaboration opportunities. The final outcomes will be evaluated by a jury made up of unibz faculty members and experts from the partner company. The team achieving the best predictive performance will receive a prize, while an additional award will recognise the most innovative approach.
The Data4Econ Hackathon is open to students and researchers interested in data analytics, economics and forecasting. Whether you are already experienced in data science or still developing your skills, the day is designed to turn theory into practice and to tackle real data and real problems.
“We want to offer students a setting that reflects real-world dynamics: authentic data, clear objectives and a comparison of different approaches. It’s a chance to learn by doing and to understand how data science can generate value in economic analysis and forecasting,” says Professor Alessandro Casa, organiser of the event.
The appointment is therefore set for 30 March, for a full day of teamwork, experimentation and networking for anyone looking to test their skills and build new connections between the university and the applied world.
